I Recreated My Childhood Floor Plan Drawing

Since I was little, I have always loved the concept of designing homes, whether that is by drawing the Architecture and house plans or by designing the interior. There is a program online called Home Styler. This free program allows you to create 3D models of homes! You can create designs from scratch or upload your original designs. Usually, I find random floor plans from Pinterest, upload them, and recreate them, but this time I decided to create one of my own.

I have a binder that I started when I was about 12 or 13 that has, among other things, floor plans that I created and drew myself. I haven't looked back on them until recently and thought it would be fun to see what my floor plan would actually look like in 3D. So I uploaded my picture, which is below, and began to design it. This floor plan is not my favorite, but I tried to stay pretty accurate to what the 13-year-old me created, with only changing a few minor areas to make it more functional.

Unfortunately, Home Styler does have some limitations. There are no showers, stairs going down, options for ceilings (vaulted), multiple floors, and other design aspects. That being said, the stairs shown in the pictures should actually be going down as this home is a Rambler.

One of the hardest things about turning my drawing into an actual house is that I had no measurements. I had to try to figure out how big to do each room based on the furniture sizing. All of the furniture is true to size, so I usually start with building the garage and putting cars in it to format it correctly. Then I build around the garage. These rooms are slightly bigger than I would like, and it is a lot of square feet for just one floor. Overall though, I am very happy with how the final product turned out!
